The 2017 Bojangles Summer Shootout has officially begun, and in fascinating fashion. In round one, Gareis was looking like a true threat to the rest of the competition. After passing Tommy Good, he was working on passing Isaak Love and Cameron Bolin for the lead however a yellow flag ended the race early. In a post-race interview, Gareis was asked about his confidence after being the strongest car on the outside lane: "It definitely helps being able to use the outside lane, especially when a lot of the other guys are trapped down on the inside and we can move up and work the outside." After rain cancelled the bandolero races on Tuesday, the Outlaw class raced round two the following week. After a bad draw Gareis had to start from the rear, but after just a few laps after the green flag flew for the first time Gareis found himself in 8th place. However, after getting into a fellow driver and spinning, he found himself in the rear again. This time was different, he had damage and barely any laps left. Gareis ended up 11th after round two, and has his eyes set on round three and four which will both run on June 27th 2017.
