2017 Recap

2017 was a year everyone at Team 53 will always remember. In 2017, we scored 11 wins, 30 top-fives, finished fourth nationally, second in BOSSO points, and most importantly had a blast doing it. Our year started in March at Concord Speedway where Justin began a top five streak. Justin's best finish in the spring series was 2nd. Once the Bojangles Summer Shootout (BOSSO) at Charlotte Motor Speedway came , Justin had momentum and was ready to flex his muscles at the iconic racetrack. Justin's championship hopes were crushed after being crashed in rounds two and three. After weeks of close finishes, Justin finally broke through to win his first BOSSO race in round 7, and swept the rest of the 10 race series. Justin finished second in points, only 6 points out of the championship despite the early troubles. After the BOSSO, we returned to Concord Speedway. Justin swept the weekend and increased the winning streak to 6 races. A week later, in a last minute decision the 53 team made the trip North to Bethel Motor Speedway in New York for Bandolero Nationals. Team 53 unloaded fast, as we won both of our heat races, qualified pole, and was the fastest in nearly every practice session. On day one, there was a 10-lap "trophy dash" race. The lineup was by draw, and Justin drew last place. In just 10 laps, Justin drove to finish a close second. In the main 25 lap feature, Justin started first and appeared to be the fastest as he had throughout the entire weekend. However, a late race restart and a photo-finish resulted in the 53 machine finishing second by just inches. When team 53 returned south to Concord Speedway, we were met with a tire dilemma and had a rough patch. We ended up winning most of the fall races at Concord, including the 80 lap Spooktacular event. This year would not have been possible without everyone at Tretow Racing, as every week they provide us with an amazing racecar. Team 53 could not be more excited for 2018, and we hope you are too!
