The 2018 Bojangles Summer Shootout season has been a wild ride so far for Team 53. Driver Justin Gareis swept rounds one and two with over a four-second lead in both races. After showing blistering speed, Gareis went into round three with high expectations and brought home our 13th win of 2018, and a record breaking 7 race win streak in the Bojangles Summer Shootout Outlaws Division. All eyes were on the black, white, and orange number 53 car entering the July 3rd edition of the Shootout. Gareis started 7th, and quickly took the race lead. It seemed that the streak would continue, until a late race caution bunched the outlaws field back together with a handful of laps left. Entering turn one, Gareis was forced out of the way putting him in the middle of a three wide situation. While making the top side of the quarter mile work, the car on the inside lost control and slammed into Justin, ending the streak with a third-place finish. The next week, there was added motivation and our 14th win of 2018 was captured after a late race pass for the lead. Finally, in round 7 of the Bojangles Summer Shootout we were forced into a tricky situation, having to race the feature on a worn set of tires. Gareis quickly moved to third but did not have enough grip to catch the remaining two cars and finished in third. There are four races remaining in the Bojangles Summer Shootout. Team 53 is on top of the points standings by 19 points.
